What’s your favorite painting in the Getty collections?
It’s always impossible to say, but…a painting by Andrea Mantegna, the great 16th-century northern Italian painter, of the Adoration of the Magi. It’s extremely beautiful and it’s got an extraordinary lightness and deftness of touch, both in the emotion of the figures as they’re expressed in the faces, and in the pure quality of the paint on linen.
