Italian designer Gianni Versace died on 15 July 1997. Versace was murdered outside his Miami home by Andrew Cunanan while returning from his daily walk. Versace is credited with creating the “Supermodel” and some of the most daring fashions in the 80s and early 90s, such as the Elizabeth Hurley’s infamous safety pin dress which took inspiration from punk culture, worn to the premier of 4 Weddings and a Funeral in 1994. After his death, Versace’s fashion empire was taken over by his sister and muse Donatella serving as designer and his brother Santo as CEO.
