Happy Birthday, Sandro Chia!

Sculptor and painter Sandro Chia was born 20 April 1946 in Florence, where he also attended the Accademia delle Belle Arti. Along with Mimmo Paladino, and Francesco Clemente, Chia was a member of the Transavanguardia italiana, a neo-expressionist movement whose apex was in the 1980s. Chia’s oil paintings are vibrantly colored figurative works abound with  themes of eroticism, melancholy and death.
