Two monumental sculptures by Antonio Pio Saracino, installed at the end of November, will be dedicated today by the artist together with representatives from the Italian embassy in Washington and the consulate general in New York. Placed at opposite ends of the plaza at 1094 Avenue of the Americas (6th Avenue) between 41st and 42nd streets, the statues, entitled The Guardians: Hero and Superhero, are abstract interpretations of Michelangelo’s David and a cape-wearing superhero. The works, a gift to the city of New York from Italy, were produced in conjunction with the 2013 Year of Italian Culture.
