Architect Antonio Sant’Elia died on 10 October 1916 while fighting for Italian forces at Monte Ermada near Gorizia on the Italo-Slovene border. He was 28. A major figure in the Futurist movement, Sant’Elia made a series of designs for a new, modern city (Città Nuova) that would be based on industrialization and mechanization.
