Florentine artist Alesso Baldovinetti may have been born on 14 October 1425. The eldest son of a wealthy merchant who rejected his expected career in commerce to become an artist, Alesso was part of the second generation of quattrocento painters active in Florence. Unfortunately, Baldovinetti often experimented with his technique, which has led to the degradation of several of his works.
