On 12 October 1492, Piero della Francesca died in his hometown of Borgo San Sepolcro. He was in his late seventies. A painter and theorist, Piero is known for his experiments with linear perspective and the oil medium, which both served his keen interest in naturalism. Piero also excelled as a fresco painter; his most beloved cycle adorns the cappella maggiore of the Church of San Francesco in Arezzo.
