The Italian Art Society’s Emerging Scholars Committee (ESC) provides a supportive community for graduate students, recent graduates, and early career scholars in Italian studies. “Emerging scholars” includes anyone currently enrolled in a masters or doctoral program, anyone who has earned a master’s degree within the past six years but is not yet enrolled in a doctoral program, and moreover, anyone who has earned a PhD within the past six years. We also occasionally host events aimed at undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing a masters or doctoral degree in Italian art.
For IAS members, the ESC hosts two annual events. Since 2024, our fall event is “Lightning Talks.” These are 10-minute virtual presentations delivered by emerging scholars via Zoom and centered on an Italian city which is announced via CFP. Whenever possible, the city will coincide with the location of the IAS’s annual lecture. In addition, each spring, the ECS hosts a professionalization event that is focused on benefiting early career scholars. All members of the IAS are welcome to attend these events for which Zoom links are circulated via email. The ESC also manages the IAS Mentorship Program and it hosts a Facebook group and Instagram page. Please follow us to learn about our latest activities. We welcome any questions or comments and look forward to working with you.

Mentorship Program
Members of the Italian Art Society are eligible for our mentorship program. The Emerging Scholars Committee manages the program to enable emerging scholars to discuss their work and professional development with more advanced colleagues. Students and scholars of all levels are encouraged to apply (as either mentors or mentees). Contact esc@italianartsociety.org with any questions.
