Submission Guidelines

Who may propose a session / paper at an IAS-sponsored session?

One benefit of IAS membership is the opportunity to propose, organize, chair, or speak in an IAS-sponsored session. Membership fees are returned to members through travel and publication grants, conference sessions, and networking opportunities. Membership is thus required for participation in IAS-sponsored sessions.

The Program Committee welcomes proposals for IAS-sponsored sessions at the annual meetings of the American Association of Italian Studies, the College Art Association, the International Congress on Medieval Studies—Kalamazoo, the Renaissance Society of America, the Society of Architectural Historians, and the Sixteenth Century Society Conference.

Eligibility requirements:

1. Organizers must be members of the IAS to propose a session to the Program Committee.

2. In order for the IAS to ensure a cohesive program of sessions at a conference, IAS-approved sessions may not be linked with any other non-IAS sponsored panels or papers.

3. Organizers, chairs, and speakers must be members at the time of their participation in an IAS-sponsored session.

4. Individual members of the Program Committee cannot propose sessions. However, the Program Committee may propose sessions in the absence of other suitable submissions.

5. Members of the Executive Board cannot propose sessions. They can chair and/or present papers.

6. IAS officers may submit session proposals, but preference is given to non-office-holding members. All IAS officers can chair and/or present a paper in an IAS-sponsored session.
