As another tourist season gets into full swing, Venice once again struggles to manage large crowds and the immense ships that bring them to the city for day trips. A 2013 decision to reduce big ship traffic by 12.5% and a ban on the largest, those over 94,000 gross tons, have been suspended by a regional tribunal pending a hearing scheduled for mid-June. Ermanno Rivetti reports in The Art Newspaper on the debate and potentially dire consequences for the city, which was put on the World Monuments Fund Watch List in 2013.
