Now through 4 April 2015, the Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art in London hosts an exhibition of paintings by Renato Guttuso (1911-87). Organized in collaboration with the Galleria d’Arte Maggiore, Bologna, Renato Guttuso: Painter of Modern Life is the first major exhibition in the United Kingdom for almost twenty years to focus on the career of this important artist, offering visitors the opportunity to explore the work of a pivotal figure in modern Italian culture, and to consider some of the questions it raises concerning the role of the artist – and of art itself – in modern society. Jonathan Jones reviews it in The Guardian.
