TWO NEW EXHIBITIONS NOW OPEN AT FONDAZIONE PRADA IN MILAN

Two new exhibitions are now open at Milan’s Fondazione Prada. The first is “True Value” by Theaster Gates (USA), and the second is entitled “T.T.T.- Template Temples of Tenacity” by Nástio Mosquito (Angola). Both exhibitions are curated by Elvira Dyangani Ose. Theaster Gates, whose work is dedicated to urban regeneration and social practice, underlines the bonds between immaterial and material objects, raising awareness of their universal power in shaping communities, social structures, and power relationships. Nástio Mosquito presents a multimedia project, in which installation, performance, music, and film engage the public in an interaction which calls for a return to an innate sensitivity. The African artist addresses issues such as being-in-community, love, affection, and desire.

Fondazione Prada was created in 1993 by internationally acclaimed fashion designer Miuccia Prada and her husband Patrizio Bertelli, with the aim to foster contemporary art and culture through the organization of exhibitions, performances, cinema projects, and conferences. After the opening of its Venetian venue in 2011 – the 18th century Palazzo Ca’ Corner della Regina –, the headquarters of Fondazione Prada was inaugurated in Milan in May 2015.

Studio OMA – led by Rem Koolhaas – transformed a former distillery from the 1910s into a hybrid of new and renovated buildings, offering multiple possibilities for the display of art. Alongside the permanent and site-specific installations by Robert Gober and Thomas Demand, Fondazione Prada hosts a complex program of temporary projects – spanning exhibitions, film screenings, concerts, and performances.

With these two exhibitions, Fondazione Prada demonstrates again its ongoing research in the multiplicity of contemporary artistic expressions and affirms itself as a dynamic hub for the contemporary art in Milan and Italy. Both exhibitions will remain on view until 25 September 2016.
