Michelangelo: Love and Death,” an anticipated new movie on the life and career of master Michelangelo, opens 13 June to British audiences. Directed by David Bickerstaff, who also worked on “Painting in the Modern Garden: From Monet to Matisse” (2016) and “Goya: Visions of Flesh and Blood” (2015), and produced by Exhibitions on Screen, the movie aims to chronicle the entirety of the artist’s extended career.

Michelangelo has been the inspiration for myriad studies, yet in this movie Bickerstaff and his team attempt to take a new look at the artist’s production through the context of his circle of artist colleagues. Exploring works in various European collections and unearthing tidbits from Michelangelo’s own writings, the movie is bound to encourage a renewed appreciation for Michelangelo’s body of work.
