The Italian Art Society (IAS) invites proposals for a sponsored panel at the 62nd International Congress on Medieval Studies (ICMS), to be held 14-16 May 2027. The Congress is an annual gathering of more than 3000 scholars interested in Medieval Studies. It features hundreds of sessions of papers, roundtables, workshops, demonstrations, performances, and poster sessions. The format will include in-person sessions, virtual sessions via their online platform, and blended-format hybrid sessions. When submitting your proposal, please specify In-Person, Virtual, OR Hybrid.
IAS has received special permission to submit a panel after the ICMS deadline, and is encouraging panels featuring papers by early career scholars.
The IAS is seeking session proposals that address any topic in Italian art and architecture from the fourth through the fifteenth centuries. The IAS will consider both completed panels and those soliciting contributors, which will be completed during the ICMS’s annual Call for Participation in summer. When submitting your proposal, please specify either Complete Session OR Session Seeking Contributions. Sessions must be complete by 15 October 2026.
IAS members interested in organizing a panel, or linked panels, should submit:Panel proposals IAS members interested in submitting a panel proposal on any topic focusing on Italian art and architecture from the fourth to the fifteenth centuries should submit:
- session title
- brief abstract of the session, which will be included in the Call for Papers (if seeking contributions) (100 words max)
- description of scholarly importance/timeliness of the session (100 words max)
- name of the organizer(s), email address(es), and affiliation(s)
- list of confirmed or potential speakers (they need not be confirmed)
- format (In-Person, Virtual,or Hybrid); if Hybrid, brief statement of need for Hybrid session (100 words max)
- a statement of need of IAS support (75–150 words)

Participants must be members of both the ICMS and the IAS at the time of application, and at the time of the conference, if selected. Those with financial need may be eligible for IAS Sospeso Memberships. To join or renew with IAS, go to: https://www.italianartsociety.org/join/.
Applicants may propose only one session, and no participant in that session may be included in any additional role (organizer, speaker, discussant, etc.) in another panel submitted for IAS sponsorship for the same conference.
